Together against hatred: At the first joint Pride of the border cities Frankfurt/Oder and Słubice the German and Polish queer community demonstrated at the weekend with united strength against the difficult situation for Polish queers.

In the run-up, queer organisations from both countries as well as political ones called on German activists* to join. And they did! A total of about 800 people marched in full unity through the twin city on Saturday. With rainbow-coloured posters and banners – and wearing face masks and keeping distance. Watch videos here.

The demonstration had two aims: It wanted to draw attention to the little or no visibility and infrastructure for queer people in both parts of the twin city – and to show solidarity with the LGBTIQ* community in Poland. Queer Polish people have become increasingly marginalised and outlawed as a result of the inflammatory, anti-queer politics of the ruling PiS party in recent months.

The motto of the joint pride was: “Liebe ohne Grenzen / Miłość bez granic” (“love without borders”).
